New affordable homes for Cornish villagers

More than 30 new homes are to be built in Mevagissey on the south Cornwall coast.

Cornwall Council has granted planning permission for the development of 31 affordable homes in the village.

The company behind the development, Westcountry Land & Homes, said the houses would feature slate and natural stone, in keeping with the character of the village.

Work on the houses is expected to begin in Autumn 2013.

John Schuttkacker, from Westcountry Land & Homes, said: “Mevagissey has become a magnet for tourism and for second homeowners, resulting in people who live and work there struggling to find themselves a home.”

The company said the properties, which will be built on a three-acre site, will range in price from £71,250 to £106,000.
