Phase 2 at Alphington: A rental community designed for today

Westcountry Land

At Westcountry Land, we know the rental market in Exeter is both resilient and growing. That’s why Phase 2 of our Alphington project focuses on delivering high-quality rental homes that meet the needs of today’s tenants.

In refurbishing the barns and cottages, we took on buildings that would otherwise have been demolished. Instead, we gave them a new lease of life, and they’ve been fully occupied ever since. In the five years since their redevelopment, every time one becomes available, it’s re-let almost immediately. That level of consistent demand is a real testament to the specification, space and quality we’ve delivered.

This success has given us a real appetite to grow as a residential landlord, even in a challenging climate where upcoming rental legislation is set to make older housing stock unsuitable for letting. We’re focused on delivering homes that are future-proof, well-managed and meet the evolving needs of renters.

Alongside the barns and cottages, we are delivering a private rental apartment building, bringing even more choice to a community that’s becoming increasingly desirable for young professionals, families, and relocators.

We’re also thrilled to see progress on wider infrastructure in the area. Devon County Council has now confirmed that works have started on the Chudleigh Road diversion – a vital project that will significantly improve access and support sustainable development across South West Exeter. Read more about it in their May 2025 newsletter.

Alphington continues to evolve into a vibrant and connected neighbourhood – and we’re proud to be playing a part in shaping its future.
