Public consultation planned for Union Corner housing scheme
Proposals for 98 new homes on land at Union Corner along with new and improved sport pitches for Falmouth School will be the subject of a public consultation which will take place on Tuesday, December 1. The public is being invited into the school between 3.30pm and 8pm when the plans for the proposed new housing development will be on display and members of the development team will be on hand to answer questions and record feedback.
The proposals include 98 new homes, a third of which would be affordable. There would be a range of two, three and four-bedroom family homes along with a small number of one and two-bedroom flats. Dedicated parking for all properties is planned and there would be enhanced and new landscaping.
The proposals would enable Falmouth School to consolidate its existing sports pitches onto a single, enhanced campus. Its plans include the relocation of two pitches on the Union Corner site to the former Budock Hospital site, closer to the school and safer for the children to get to.
“We are really looking forward to the opportunity to provide some much needed and affordable housing for people in Falmouth,” said Justin Dodge from Westcountry Land & Homes. “We are pleased to be working with Falmouth School and hope to be able to provide funding for brand new, state-of-the-art, all-weather pitches and sports facilities.”
Headteacher Brett Miners, said: “We are looking forward to talking to as many people as possible about our plans to enhance our sports facilities. The proceeds from the sale of the land at Union Corner will enable us to create a first-class sporting environment for pupils and visitors to Falmouth School. Consultation is important, so we hope local people will come along to find out more and give us their feedback.”
