Bigbury on Sea

In December 2020, Westcountry Land submitted a planning application to redevelop the site of the former Korniloff Residential Care Home in Bigbury. The proposal sought to replace the existing building with five contemporary detached homes, carefully designed to respond to the site’s unique coastal setting and the character of the surrounding village.

The site sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the design approach aimed to deliver high-quality architecture that respected both the local vernacular and the sensitive landscape. The scheme took inspiration from traditional forms and materials while offering a modern interpretation suited to contemporary living.

In October 2021, the planning application was refused. After careful consideration, we chose not to appeal the decision.

Although this project will not be taken forward, it reflects our continued commitment to delivering thoughtfully designed, contextually appropriate developments that respond to both local needs and their wider setting.
